Who is this course for?
|
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Services focuses on the development of a broad range of women’s hairdressing skills and reception duties. Students will also study the VTCT Level 1 Certificate in Beauty Therapy and will develop the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills through assisting a qualified beauty therapist in carrying out facial skincare, day make-up and nail services in a real/realistic work environment, whilst themselves gaining basic skills in the techniques. THIS IS PART OF THE 14 - 16 COLLABORATIVE PROVISION.

No formal qualifications are required. All applicants are interviewed and carefully counselled when they apply in order to ensure that the programme is right for them.

What will I study?
|
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Services includes 7 mandatory units, and a selection of optional units. These units include; Follow health and safety practice in the salon, salon reception duties, working in the hair industry, the art of dressing hair, create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector, shampoo and condition the hair and scalp and client consultation for hair services.
The VTCT Level 1 Certificate in Beauty Therapy is made up of 7 mandatory units and an optional unit. These units include; Follow health and safety in the salon, introduction to the Hair and beauty sector, providing basic manicure treatment, providing basic pedicure treatment, skin care, working with others in the hair and beauty sector, basic make-up application.

How will I be assessed?
|
Throughout the course, learners will be supervised by technical staff and assessed on their occupational competence.

|
These qualification are suitable for individuals wishing to enter the hair and /or beauty industry or for those who wish to progress to further qualifications in this sector.

This course is available through the 14-16 Futures programme and learners from schools in South Powys can access one day a week: currently a Tuesday in year 10 and a Thursday in year 11.
