The Awards Ceremony
Coleg Powys proudly held its first Student Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 15th June 2011 at the Pavilion, Llandrindod Wells. We were delighted to be joined by Special Guest Peter Karrie, legend of musical theatre.
The evening opened with a drinks reception with canapés prepared and served by Catering and Hospitality students. Guests then took their seats and were officially welcomed by Simon Pirotte, the Principal, before the presentation of awards began. Winners of Subject Area Awards (sponsored by FSB, Theatr Hafren, Themes Restaurant, Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and Quackers Indoor Play Centre) were announced by Assistant Principal David Williams and invited up to the stage to be photographed with Peter Karrie, Steve Kaye of FSB and Simon Pirotte and presented with a certificate and a cheque.
Peter Karrie provided a wonderful musical interlude singing songs from West End shows including Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by John Quirk on the piano.
The finale of the evening was the presentation of Individual Awards (sponsored by FSB) to students nominated by their tutors, culminating in the College Student of the Year 2011 Award being presented to Stephanie Hughson.
