What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships have been designed to give you the opportunity to get a job or a higher level of skills while you are working.
As an apprentice you will be able to earn money as you train and develop new skills. You will be training with an employer in a work placement and will work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Key Skill qualifications and an industry standard Technical Certificate.
Apprenticeships last between 18 months and four years, but in certain circumstances apprentices can achieve their full apprenticeship framework in less time than this.
What types of apprenticeship are there?
Coleg Powys offer Foundation and Modern Apprenticeships in the following sectors:
- Administration
- Agriculture
- Agricultural Mechanics
- Catering
- Conservation
- Customer Service
- Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
- Motor Vehicle Mechanics
- Sport and Recreation
- Warehousing, Storage & Distribution
Who will train me?
Both Coleg Powys and your employer will be responsible for
training you. You will learn valuable practical 'hands on' skills at
the workplace and, in some cases, you will attend çollege on a
day-release basis.
Who can apply?
Anyone aged 16 or over irrespective of gender, race, creed or
disability, who has the ability and commitment to gain high level
skills and qualifications. In some circumstances there is a
minimum entry requirement although this is dependent on the
career path you choose.
You don’t have to be a school-leaver. Apprenticeships are open
to those already in employment, so if you missed the
opportunity to improve your skills and knowledge when you left
school, it’s not too late to start.
There is no upper age limit to Modern Apprenticeships.
