Who is this course for?
|
This course is designed to enable individuals to work with children in a professional capacity. The programme provides the student with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to work in a range of settings.
|

Previous knowledge required:
|
A minimum of four relevant GCSE subjects at Grade C or above or a suitable level 2 qualification with an appropriate grade. Older learners may be exempt from entry requirements - please enquire. All applicants will need to complete a satisfactory interview, work experience and a screening test.
|

What will I study?
|
The programme structure includes a number of core units (which are mandatory) and optional units. Examples of core units are:
Human growth and development
Learning in early years
Child care practice
Professional practice
The professional practice unit provides the student with the opportunity to become a professional childcare worker.
|
|
What else will I do?
|
You will gain a First Aid qualification and an Essential Food Hygiene qualification. Key Skills in Information Technology, Application of Number and Communication will also feature as part of your overall programme.You may also like the opportunity of sitting or re-sitting your GCSE Maths and/or English.
|

How will I be assessed?
|
There will be a combination of examinations and coursework.
|
|
What will I achieve?
|
A BTEC National Diploma in CCLD, which qualifies you to practice in an unsupervised capacity in a range of settings. You may even decide you wish to open a Day Care facility. You will have the opportunity to achieve a variety of subsidiary awards including Key Skills.
